You are invited to join other University of Edinburgh alumni, parents, and friends living in the greater DC area for a wonderful celebration of Scottish culture. Our evening will include a dinner of traditional Scottish fare, Burns’ poetry and songs, as well as bagpipers. Alumni of St. Cross College Oxford, St. Andrews University, and College of Wooster in Ohio will also be joining us.
Robert Burns was born in 1759 to Agnes Broun and William Burness, a poor tenant farmer. He spent his youth working on his father’s farm, but was extremely well-read. Burns penned his first verse at the age of 15 and later as an adult, became far more interested in poetry than farming. His first collection of poems was published with much critical acclaim and, in a matter of weeks; Burns was received as a national celebrity. The last years of Burns’ life were devoted to writing the poetic masterpieces for which he is known. On the anniversary of his birth, Scots celebrate their national bard with the Robert Burns Supper.
We hope you will be able to join us for this Edinburgh University Alumni event. Wooster College has agreed to coordinate bookings for this event.
