British Alumni Community Service Event

General NewsThe DC Chapter of the LSE Alumni and Friends, along with other British
University Alumni groups including Oxford, Cambridge, Kings,
Edinburgh, SOAS, LSYTM, will be sending a team of volunteers to the
Hands On DC Work-A-Thon on April 30th, and would like to invite you
and your friends and family for a fun morning of service to the
community.

Whisky Tasting 2011

We present the Edinburgh University Alumni Club of Washington DC 3rd Annual Whisky Tasting.

Come and sample a selection of single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, while learning about the different varieties.

Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk 2010

General NewsDuring the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend hundreds of Scottish clansmen parade with their bagpipes through Old Town Alexandria. The club is arranging a meetup to watch the parade followed by lunch at a local pub.

Date & Time: Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. Rain, snow or shine.

Meet at the NW corner of N. St. Asaph and Queen Sts. - look for a waving Saltire and University of Edinburgh Tartan Scarves.

Lunch to follow in the upstairs dining room Union Street Public House,

The University of Edinburgh Alumni Receptions – Boston, New York, Washington & Atlanta

General NewsThe University will be in the US this October and we would like to invite you and a guest to join us at events in Boston, New York, Washington and Atlanta. These events are an opportunity for our alumni and supporters in the States to socialise, network and meet representatives from Edinburgh.

In New York and Washington, Architectural Historian, Professor Iain Boyd White will deliver a lecture on ‘Edinburgh, Visuality, Cognition’. Iain is currently Director of VARIE (Visual Arts Research Institute Edinburgh), a Vice President of CIHA (Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art), and Chairman elect of RIHA (International Association of Research Institutes in the History of Art). He is a former Trustee of the National Galleries of Scotland and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

University of Edinburgh USA Undergraduate Recruitment Events

General NewsThe University's International Office, in conjunction with the University of Oxford, are holding a series of recruitment events across the USA. We would like to hear from alumni who are interested in coming along and sharing their experiences with prospective students. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have recently completed an Undergraduate Degree at the University of Edinburgh or who have recently returned to the US having taken part in the University's Study Abroad Program. Potomac Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race

General NewsThe Alumni Associations of Oxford and Cambridge would like to invite other British University alums to watch the Oxford-Cambridge Potomac Boat Race on September 25, 2010. Alumni from Oxford and Cambridge will race boats from the Key Bridge to the Georgetown Waterfront. After the race, alumni will adjourn to the nearby Ritz-Carlton's Degrees Bar. A trophy will be presented, and a special Pimms Cup *censored*tail will be on sale.
Details:
Date: Saturday, September 25, 2010
Time: Assembling 1:30; First Race 2:00; Second Race 2:15 (Rain or Shine, or rather "British or Regular")
Location: Meet on the Georgetown Waterfront outside Sequoia Restaurant, 3000 K Street NW; Race will be from Key Bridge to Georgetown Waterfront; Meetup afterwards, ca. 3:00, at Ritz-Carlton's Degrees Bar, 3100 South Street, Washington, DC
Alumni can park their cars at the Ritz for $10 before the race.
